Guest Guest
No one could be happier than me that Christie won, but now comes the tough part. For years the Harrison political machine has been propped up by the state. The millions in State aid, the Abbot district standing, the distressed city money, have all allowed Harrison to load the payrolls with family and friends. It allowed them to have $90,000 dollar janitors, $120,000 secretaries, $85,000 dollar chauffeurs. We gave past employees hundreds of thousands of dollars as severance packages. The developers have raped our town for millions. Now that there is a republican in the statehouse its time to hold on to your wallets. We have allowed our town officials to go on a spending spree like never before. Now the tax payers will end up with the bill. Of course the politicians will cry that the problem was caused by the state cutting aid, just like they are still blaming Christie Whitman for the pension shortages. If we are going to elect people like McDonough and his ilk, we will have to pay the price. We need some new leaders in Harrison who will do what we all have to do, live within our means. Guest guest
Is the town still going to hire the six new firemen in waiting? You bet your ass they will. They will counter by laying off $10,000.00/year crossing guards as a smokescreen. Either way, the checks from Trenton shall be marked "insufficient funds" in the future. How much more can the taxes go up? I made a previous prediction that they will hit $15,000.00 per two family home bu 2011 and its fruition is in sight. Car insurance or the mortage? Does he/she really need to go to college? How can the towns prima donnas still afford to dine at the finest restaurants in NJ, own multiple homes and boats, while I am losing my house? They don't care. McMole and crew are never leaving these six figure, no work jobs as long as he is in office. Get rid of him by voting the big giant head out or suffer the inevitable shame of moving in with relatives! IMO.

Christie Whitman undeniably, irrefutably,is responsible for the pension shortages.Even Republicans admit to this .She balanced her budget by first raiding the pension funds and then not funding them. By making such an erroneous and irresponsible statement reduces any credibility you might have had by a hundred fold

By making such an erroneous and irresponsible statement reduces any credibility you might have had by a hundred fold Let's give credit where Credit is Due. As a Republican I've NEVER hesitated to lay the Initial blame for the pension mess on Whitman. It was done out of Pettiness and Spite because the PFRS members wouldnt allow her to raid their fund and fought back and blocked her, So she stopped the Funding by allowing the towns to "Defer" payments which they never believed they'd have to pay back. Now, yes it STARTED with Whitman...but it was Continued By Codey, McGreevey, and Codey again..and now Corzine has added insult to injury (And a slap in the face to the unions who supported him) by AGAIN extending a pension Holiday to the municipalities..which is nothing more than a Loan as THAT MONEY HAS TO BE PAID EVENTUALLY. Whitman started it...but it's been NINE YEARS since she left office, and it took until just last year to get the Municipalities paying their share again. Couple that with the REALLY bad investments made without any input from the people who's money was being gambled with and we have the pension nightmare that currrently exists. If Corzine had followed through with his initial promise to clean up Trenton, and stop the cronyism, nepotism, and Multiple-dipping of jobs and pensions, This election never would have even been a contest. he chose instead to play Trenton games, and now he's on the Beach. If Christie doesnt follow through and start out strong, then in 4 years HE'LL be replaced. It's time the voters send the message to politicians at ALL levels that you work for US, not the other way around.

Whitman has been out of office for over eight years. During that time there have been Democrats in both the statehouse and the legislature. Instead of correcting any mistakes she might have made they compounded them by additional pension fund borrowing. When she took money out of the pension fund the funds were bulging with huge surpluses. She took money to keep taxes low. Her successors thought it was such a good idea they continued to take the money to balance the state budget and went on a spending binge. Apparently you don't know what you are talking about are purposelessly looking for someone to blame. You would make a good substitute for the bagman.
