Just what is it you're celebrating; stock market collapse, massive unemployment, 4,000,000,000,000 in debt (and counting), a corrupt administration, or a new flavor of Kool-Aid??

The credit for those lies with the Republicans. What you right-wing ideologues have done to your country is a disgrace. And now that you've lost your dominant position because of it, you oppose, deride, and deny every effort to make it right. Every sign of recovery, every improvement in our country's standing in the world, every improvement in our children's education, every gain in our scientific prowess, every reduction in our dependency on foreign oil, will now be a reminder of the failure of your ideology. Those are the things the US is now working to create. That is what we have to celebrate. And you guys can't stand it.

It is glaringly obvious that you care more for your ideology than for your country. Like Rush Limbaugh, you want Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress to fail. You'd rather see your country stay mired in your mess than to have the other guys do better than your guys did. And the Republicans who remain in power are trying their best to make that happen. Standing in the way of any and all progress. Fighting against every effort, and offering in return nothing but the same failed ideas that created this mess. They are actively working against the interests of their own country out of fear that the other guys might succeed where they failed. Shameful.

The republicans aren't standing in anybody's way. What congress have you been watching? Your response shows your clueless when it comes to politics. The republicans are choosing not to do anything, they aren't standing in the way. Not that they have a choice, the democrats are pushing through every spending bill they ever wanted all at once, because they know the next election they are screwed. Its very easy , and most ind. sources, say the next election is going to be dominated by republicans. Its the same cycle all the time. The republicans shut out the democrats when they were in power and now they are getting a taste of their own medicine. Its nothing new, to sit there and say the republicans are standing in the way just shows you do not know what you are talking about. It works both ways, both parties do the same thing over and over. obama is going to be facing a republican majority after the next election so he and current dems are going full speed ahead. I like obama, but he has went back on pretty much everything he campaigned about.

The pork spending is what he said he wouldn't do, and bam first thing out of the box, one of the biggest in history. We have congressman and women who sign the bill without reading it, and the democrats used fear to get it passed. Mark my words, it happens everytime, americans do not like it when one party rules, it always winds up a mess., so you will see obama having to actually work wtih the republican congress to get stuff passed, and in the end, americans will benefit. The government is more efficient when power is balanced..

you sit there and say things, like you lost the election, and the other guys, ect. ect.. Im sorry, but unless your name is barack obama you didn't win anything. If your an american your an american, this us a them mind set is moronic, childish, and in the end you just end up looking stupid..

If the Republicans weren't standing in the way, it wouldn't take 60 votes in the Senate to pass any legislation. It would take a majority of 51. The Republicans are threatening to filibuster everything they don't like. To do that, they must affirmatively announce their intent to filibuster, and nearly every Republican has to support the filibuster. With Democrats in control of 58 seats, soon to be 59, nearly every Republican has to take the affirmative action of supporting the filibuster in order to block legislation. That's not doing nothing. That is affirmatively and decisively standing in the way. Republicans tried to stop the stimulus package; it passed because three (3) Republican Senators broke ranks.

You're right about some of the earmarks, but it's a mistake to assume that every earmark is a bad project, or to assume that it's a bad project just because it can be made to sound silly. There was one for honeybees, I believe, which sounds silly if you just say that; but when you realize the role that honeybees play in the natural environment and that their numbers have been declining at an alarming rate, you realize it's not silly at all.

". . . agricultural crops pollinated by honeybees accounts for about one-third of the U.S. diet. No bees, no crops. The monetary value of honey bees as commercial pollinators in the United States is estimated at about $15 billion annually. Worldwide, three-quarters of all flowering plants require pollination to reproduce." http://usgovinfo.about.com/b/2007/04/03/ho...ns-congress.htm See also: http://www.ecologyandsociety.org/vol5/iss1/art4/main.html

How many people know that, or take the time to find out? So they're easy targets for politicians who want to criticize "earmarks."

We are facing major issues as a country and as a species. If all we do is bounce back and forth between one party and the other, hoping that one party will eventually eliminate political corruption, we're going to do a lot of bouncing back and forth; meanwhile nothing is going to change. If we don't elevate ourselves above our inclination toward instant gratification, we are not going to do well, no matter which party is in power. That means it's important for citizens to read real newspapers and study the issues that affect the only world we have.

I didn't say their obstruction has been entirely successful. Just that it's where they're directing their efforts.

Not a single House Republican voted for the stimulus bill, even after getting some concessions. We're in a crappy situation, folks. And the solution is ugly. No one is denying that the bailouts will benefit some people who don't deserve it, and that the huge deficits will have painful and long-lasting consequences. But do you think that just letting the country sink into a full fledged depression wouldn't also have long-term consequences? Not to mention being a near-term disaster.

These are the cards we've been dealt. It stinks. But the Republicans have completely failed to come up with any viable alternative. They just pretend that the same failed philosophy that got us here will magically work this time if we just give it another chance. Republicans seem to think that since their tax cuts for the rich didn't produce the economic boom that their faith-based economics predicted, we need to give the rich even bigger tax cuts.

Here's a clue, Republicans: When flogging fails to improve morale, it does not mean that you're not flogging enough.

Bipartisanship is a nice idea, but it isn't working. The Republican party has descended into idiocy. And that's a real shame, because we really do need an opposing side to keep the party in power honest. But an opposition that has lost its mind is useless. It's time to stop making concessions. It's time to just do what needs to be done for the good of the country. The Republicans can join in and help when they're done throwing tantrums. But we can't afford to just stand around doing nothing in the mean time.

Have you ever seen a tractor-trailer rig with one of the trailer wheels locked, the tire dragging on the pavement and smoke pouring off of it while all the other wheels are working properly? The truck's movement is impaired, but it can still move. That locked wheel is a pretty good analogy for the role the Republican party has made for itself.

Neither side is blameless. But to pretend that the blame is equal, or that there isn't a major credibility gap moving forward is just foolish. It is the plain truth that one party's ideology bears the bulk of the responsibility for the present mess, that this same party is now doing nothing to fix it, and is running interference as the other party works to repair the damage.

You are right about one thing, we are facing major issues. And we have a president who doesn't have a freakin' clue about what to do about it.

im not saying i agree with republicans, im saying you cannot possibly blame just george bush or republicans for this mess. Its all their faults, and this isn't the first recession we ever had either, its a natural occurence that happens every so often, the problem is we shouldn't be saving all these bad companies, reccessions have a way of cleaning out the trash to to speak and we seem to be slowing that process down. Im upset with obama , because even though im a conservative, i believed his talk about crossing party lines, and doing what was right, not just voting for whatever his party wanted him to.

Am i the only person that thinks its rediculous that grown men and women, elected officials, vote on things without even knowing all the issues about it? i mean most of them vote one of two ways....republican or democrat....its really a joke...I think stimluous is a good thing, bailing out failing companies is a bad thing. Because if you dont know you should know, that lots of money in projects gets spent wrongly or illegally. Image giving Hudson County officials with millions of dollars in tax money, and then hoping they spend it the right way....Do you not think political friends are going to be getting the construction projects? job? ect...so anytime money is just given to someone , there is more of a chance tha tmoney is spent terribly ...because it wasn't earned..

Plans are in the works for a Kearny Tea Party. Obama promised us "change" and that's about all we have left in our pockets. Plan on marching with us on the 15th. to show Obama we will get "change" in 2012 when we dump this over-rated, unqualified, tax & spend, subsurvient bowing puppet.

GOP can continue their tea parties and we'll continue our victory parties

Speaking of Tea Parties did anyone notice how all the loony left media either ignored them or buried the stories on back pages? Everyone, even the loonies,

has to see that the far left media has stopped reporting the news. The NY Slimes, along with many other far left outlets, has become editorial rags, no longer a straight reporting of the news but editorializing with their far left agendas.

The only place to get straight news today is the FOX network, no editorializing just the facts. As they say on Fox, "We report, you decide". Is it any surprise that Bill O'Reilly has set a record for longevity with 100 straight months as the #1 cable news show outdrawing CNN & MSNBC combined.

The current crisis didn't happen by accident or because it was time. It happened because the economy was deregulated as a result of an anti-government attitude that gained power under Reagan. As a result, speculation went wild, so that assets were over-valued; a crash was inevitable. It also happened because income disparity between the super-rich and everyone else grew too wide as a result of tax and other policies that were designed deliberately to favor the super rich. Republicans were mainly responsible for both of these, with assistance from some Democrats, including Clinton. Liberal Democrats were the only ones who stood ground against it.

I agree with you that what matters now is to move on a fix the problem. We don't want to do that by replacing one rigid ideology with another, but we do have to get rid of the rigid ideology that caused the problem.

It is ridiculous, just like passing the so-called Patriot Act before anyone had time to read it.

How would you know? You don't watch or read left-leaning media. I do, and they reported the tea parties quite a bit, including the over-the-top right wingnut fringe stuff like comparing Obama to Hitler. As for cheap rags parading as news outlets - you've got to be kidding.

Bozo here seems to be under the mistaken impression that these gatherings of morons rated the front page. Just because you named it "tea party" doesn't mean it had anything near the significance of its namesake. It's a bit like a canoe with "USS Constitution" painted on it. The coverage given by major media outlets was quite appropriate, with the notable exception of Fox News' cheerleading.

Not really. It just goes to show that PT Barnum knew what he was talking about.

DO NOT associate me with that pissant little cowboy or there WILL be HELL to pay!

The PatRat Act is the greatest POS ever foisted off on the American public and is loved only by nitwits and sheeple.

Which side are YOU choosing?
