I believe that it is a very stupid idea to get uniforms. The teachers and administration shouldn't spend so much time on what we are wearing, they should focus on improving our school and making it a better environment to learn. Uniforms create more problems. I guaruntee when September rolls around that there will be more suspensions than ever before. Students are going to focusing on the problem that they have to wear those ugly things and not on their school work. I understand that some people do wear ridiculous things to school but if you are going to make us wear uniforms why not make them nice looking?

Stop complaining about what you have to wear....your there to learn, if wearing Khaki's and polo shirt are going to distract you from doing that then you have more problems than school uniforms. And please don't say what student wear now shouldn't distract teachers from "teaching". The students are preoccupied now with what they and others are wearing. Once students are all wearing the same outfits, NO DISTRACTIONS

Teachers and administrators wanted the uniforms for the students - too many distractions. Now the BOE wants the teachers to conform to a dress code - surprisingly, the teachers are against this. Karma bites you in the ass every time.

The Karma only applies for the teachers who are in favor of student uniforms.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander, eh?

Wrong again. They are not against the dress code for themselves. There is a dress code policy for teachers already in place. Unfortunately, like the students, some of the teachers do not dress accordingly in a professional manner. Also, like the students, the current dress code is very difficult for administrators to enforce. The BOE wants tighter guidelines and the ability to enforce the policy. The part that the teachers are against is that the BOE is considering making the teachers were uniforms similar to the students.

You've really got to go to the BOE meetings before you post here.

So call Matt. He'll have you wearing long black dresses to school and then he'll tell you to let anyone that criticizes you know that it really wasn't a dress but the "goth" look.

I am a Kearny teacher and I think a dress code for teachers is a great idea. Most of my colleagues dress professionally, but for those few that missed the "dress professionally workshop" (both veterans and novices) during their student teaching semester some guidelines wouldn't hurt. Those that miss the boat stand out make the rest of us look bad.

I agree. Most of the teachers do dress professionally, but then you also have the ones who wear sneakers, flip-flops, jeans and t-shirts. These are unacceptable in school! The pathetic thing is that most administrators turn a blind eye because they don't have the nerve to confront the offenders. Also, some of the office staff should be reminded about their attire! No one should be wearing jeans, sneakers, etc.!

If you think the BOE is asking for teachers to wear uniforms, YOU should go to BOE meetings before posting here. Not once that I have been there, and I have been to ALL the meetings, has the BOE said the teachers should wear similar uniforms to the students.

I am at every board meeting.

The administrators could enforce the current dress code for teachers and students if they had backbone!

Also the BOE never said the teachers had to wear uniforms.

Maybe YOU should attend a meeting.

Really? Why don't you tell us exactly how the administrators are going to enforce it.

Also, one suggestion by the BOE besides tightening up the dress code is to have the teachers where polo shirts and khakis similar to the students.

The bottom line is that most of the teachers are in favor of a dress code and that most teachers currently dress in a professional manner.

If you're at every meeting you better try listening.

The administrators could enforce it by calling the teacher who is dressed inapproriately to the office and giving them a warning. A second offense, a written warning for their file. It is that simple. There are rules to be followed and when a teacher or staff member deliberately breaks the rule, they should be written up.

As for the polo and khakis, absolutely not. The BOE at their last meeting told a union rep. they would consider allowing male teachers to wear polos only from April until October.

How is that for listening?

Yeah right, it's that simple.

As for listening, the BOE told that to a union rep because the idea has been floated to have the teachers use polos.
