Guest Terminator
The HPD is being downsized. From a complement of 63 Officers in 1998, it has decreased to 49 Officers. Traffic Bureau Officers have been replaced by civilians. Now, when the Town is growing in population, is not the time to decrease the department. But the new Chief and Deputy Chief are political appointees and will not stand up for their Officers. Neither will the PBA because their President has been placed in the DB on steady days with weekends and holiodays off. No grievances filed by him. You decide, follks, is the mayor looking out for you by cutting cops and building a stadium ?? A stadium that will certainly bring a lot of criminal types into town. I can't wait for the first sell-out event in this stadium, when maybe 6,000 cars are coming into town and 1,500 can get into the parking deck. 4,500 cars will be parking on the streets, blocking driveways, fire hydrants, intersections, double parking, etc. The police dept. will have it's hands full (what there's left of the PD) but the mayor will be happy. He can point to the stadium and say "I DID THAT".
Guest Guest
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but why voice it on here? Everyone should be at the town meetings every month. Have you ever seen what the Kearny residents do when they are unhappy? They pack the town meeting and make their voices heard! We need to follow suit. This site is a great place to vent, but it's not solving any of our problems. Let's get to those meetings!

Let's get to those meetings! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The reason why things get posted here are because they are archived, so anyone can look into and see the questions and opinions of the residents. Going to a town meeting and voicing your opinion is like playing Russian Roulette... If someone see you asking a question that can potentionally stop the town from doing what they want, you will 1.) Be moved right out of your house, 2.) Have the town employees harass you, 3.) Make living in the town so unbearable that you move out.... Corruption and deceit is the only key to surviving in most towns, and unfortunately Harrison is one of them.

Guest Pragmatic
The new Chief doesn't like random drug testing. There hasn't been any done in about 3 years. I wonder why? The downsizing was done because Officers who formally worked on the desk were put on the streets and replaced with civilians. The same thing happened in the Traffic Bureau. Officers who were only driving around on cushman's giving out tickets were replaced by civilans at 1/3 the cost. I call that a productivity improvement, not downsizing. I guess since alchohol is legal we can all run for council. What about the conduct of our Council. Does it matter if we're arrested and plead guilty to a Criminal Charge? He can stay because he's a yes man. How about intoxication in a public place? Conduct unbecoming a political servant! Now these are role models for our children. As for who is going to police the new stadium, we have a plan to train and put on 20 class 2 Officers who will be used for these events. We are making the PD effectiveness at a more efficient price so that the taxpayers will get their moneys worth. Thats why we appointed the present Chief instead of holding a test. We can tell him what we want and he will do it.

Guest One Who Knows
The Ordinance for class 2 Officers was passed about 5 years ago. It called for them to pay for their own training at a certified police academy. The starting pay was $12.50 per hour. At that time, PC James Doran stated that it was a way of cutting costs. There will be no added lawsuits. The Class 2's will be trained and work as needed. They are used in all the shore towns during the summer with no added problems. In many instances, they are folks who are military oor federal LE officers, who are working their way intoa position where they can be hired Municipal hre in NJ. The advantages, are that you dont pay Benefits, or pension contributions, the drawbacks, are that in a lot of cases, they arent going to get too involved, or place themselves at TOO much of a risk, since it's only a part-time job at best. As with all things, the use of Special-2's involves weightng both the pros and cons.
