The Jersey Journal's headline that crime is up 13.5% in Harrison should be put in the proper persepctive. There were 454 crime committed in Harrison in 2005. If you go back in History, there were 964 crimes committed in 1995. So there has been a 53% decrease in that period. In 1995 there were 65 officers. But, 5 of them were assigned as dispatchers and 5 were parking enforcement officers. Now these jobs have been civilianized at half the cost. Isn't that whant administers are paid to do? Get the same production at lowered costs.

50 officers in 1 square mile along with 20 civilian employees is more then enough. The statewide average is 2.5 officers per thousand, so Harrison with a population of 15,000 should have 37.5 officers.

The Harrison Police Chief is doing a good job. Give him a chance, don't be alarmed by headlines in newspapers. And don't listed to a few crybaby malcontents.

He's the best Chief we had in the last couple of years.

Well he started off promising and had good ideas, but that has since changed since he allows other people to tell him how to do his job, don't understand why he would listen to people with no criminal justice background, but then again there are a lot of things going on in this town that nobody understands. Very disappointed!
