Guest KHS GIRLS TRACK WATCH Posted January 23, 2006 Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 Jim Ciffelli is an old retired principal from the kearny public school system who used his political family to secure another 9,100.00 coaching job. His sister and family members are Laura-Ciffelli-Pettigrew (Town councilwoman),Barbara Sherry Ciffelli (Town Councilwoman),Albert Ciffelli(Hudson County Freeholder). It is wrong to keep him on as a coach because there are other, more suitable and innovative coaches within the district , who also work as teachers.It is also extremely unfair for the KHS girls to have an old retired school principal as a coach just because he and his family are political entities in this town. Not only has Jim Cifelli turned the track program around and been able to get scholarships for kids who probably wouldn't be able to go to college, he is a positive role model and just a nice guy. You are not exactly the quality I look for in a teacher. Jim is THE RIGHT PERSON for this job at this time. As he explained, his return to coaching was always intended to be a short-term boost to help move the program back towards its glory years, while at the same time mentoring and grooming the current staff members to hopefully lead the program to bigger and better things for a long time. It is unfortunate what happened to this program recently and things have really turned around quickly. Just look at the numbers, talk to the kids and ask them their feelings about their coach. You won't...because you won't like the answer you get. Look beyond your personal vendettas and think about the kids. Apparently that is a problem for someone who professes to be a teacher of our youth. Do you teach your students to hold grudges too? Name one person in the district that could be doing a better job with the program and provide their credentials. In my opinion, none of the recent assistant coaches were qualified to take the head coaching position, because they were not properly mentored to assume the duties. Other interested people, not previously on the staff, had ZERO track & field coaching experience and were just looking for the paycheck. Guest Guest Posted February 2, 2006 Report Share Posted February 2, 2006 So you do not want what is best for the student-athletes on the team? i.e. a successful, proven, Hall of Fame coach who works his tail off trying to get driven kids into good colleges? You are not exactly the quality I look for in a teacher.Jim is THE RIGHT PERSON for this job at this time. As he explained, his return to coaching was always intended to be a short-term boost to help move the program back towards its glory years, while at the same time mentoring and grooming the current staff members to hopefully lead the program to bigger and better things for a long time. It is unfortunate what happened to this program recently and things have really turned around quickly. Just look at the numbers, talk to the kids and ask them their feelings about their coach. You won't...because you won't like the answer you get. Look beyond your personal vendettas and think about the kids. Apparently that is a problem for someone who professes to be a teacher of our youth. Do you teach your students to hold grudges too? Name one person in the district that could be doing a better job with the program and provide their credentials. In my opinion, none of the recent assistant coaches were qualified to take the head coaching position, because they were not properly mentored to assume the duties. Other interested people, not previously on the staff, had ZERO track & field coaching experience and were just looking for the paycheck.
