It's been that way for quite sometime....rough guess would be about 4 years give or take. That's why certain people have now have jobs on the K W D without testing they worked for the company that now does the billing and they just happened to get the job here without even taking a civil service test....I shouldn't say people just a person .....it pays to have family running the KWD brothers fathers and sons and girlfriends do stick together don't they?

Could someone explain to me why the kwd no longer does the billing ? And why do contractors do most of the the repair work on the system? What's going on?

easy one. town employees get too comfortable and very little gets done. firing contractors is alot easier.

On the money. All they have to do now is get rid of the workers and they all get more money every week. Pay contractors watch them work and get a big fat pay check. That's a sweet deal. So we don't really have a water dept do we?

The father is retired and no longer works for the town what could he have to do with what's going on at the kwd. And if people are getting jobs with out tests

(I assume you mean titled positions) then civil service should be notified to see if it is legal.

Talk about comfortable that is some racket calling contractors to do repair work while you get paid mega bucks to check on their work. Neglia should do that! why should we pay twice for the same service. That's BS. Then people wonder why their taxes are through the roof. Milk that cow for all it's worth...!

When the Town took back the Water Dept. in 2001, United Water was hired to do the billings. The user data we rec'd from East Orange was horrible. The plan was to use United Water for one year, have them clean up the database, then the Town would resume the billings. Instead, five years later, we're still paying United Water over $300,000 a year. In 2004 I argued that if we resumed our own water billings the 2004 water rate increase would've been unnecessary.

If we're serious about trying to keep taxes down, the United Water contract needs to be re-visited.

Are we serious about trying to keep taxes down?

Hey they've got a good thing going there at the KWD they don't have to work they get paid for showing up. 80 G's is a lot of money to inspect contractors work. Work the town use to do for a lot less. Big deal they sell some water, that's all spent on salaries and contrators. Sure glad we got the water back. I wonder if the KMUA will take this dept. over. If that happens look out your water rates will really go up. Then watch how much they will pay them selves.

Big Deal sounds like he/she is tired of living in an urban environment. You need to move to bigger, more suburban territory and give your opinions on their economy, maybe bang you head on some trees.

Kearny is a small, tight piped, community that needs innovative, responsible leaders to forcast the future of its development.

Try to buy a house in this community, the property values are extraordinary. The water is of an exceptional quality and it is delivered daily without exception. (oh, maybe a construction area or two could upset the delivery status) But, all in all, the community is well served.

Kearny is a unique community, diversified cultures melting together, creating a positive environment, improving life situations, and moving onward into the future one baby step at a time.

What is hard to understand is why small minds are allowed to voice terrible, vicious statements without true rebuttal from informed persons. Why don't you go to the Water Dept. and get your questions and accusations answered? Or, would you rather stay in the dark.

It sounds as though you are the victim of an over zealous imagination. Please explain what cultural diversity has to do with this suject other then to set the stage for spin and insinuation of raceism. Address the issue Ragass and cut the shit. Or are you busy milking the cash cow ?

Your mind is so large that you lost the point of the subject. A dept is suppose to take care of the system and maintain it as Kearny did in the past. Not create easy jobs that cost the tax payers twice. We have Neglia engineering for making reports and evaluating the communities supply system. We don't need to duplicate positions to create a dynasty. The truth be known, that is exactly what is going on here. Your right about improving life situations, but who's? It's not the tax payers! We both know they are being bilked as well as duped. Believe me your not fooling everybody my verbose friend.

You missed the point. Several 3rd warders led the charge against Leo and others on the council who supported the water deal. Hope those that used the issue politically crying we want our water back are enjoying their high tax and water bills. ( Except for Doyle, most of them have sold and moved, she's on the council & her husband is judge,,why move)(the water dept. continues to operate at a deficit and the town continues to bail it out financially through the general funds which raises taxes, the best kept secret in town. & United continues to do the billing..go figure.

How can that be? I thought it was back in the black. If this is true watch the KMUA for a bonding issue for it's purchase.

Guest Here it comes
You're right on the money!

If that happens talk about a cash cow. These people will be able to vote their own pay increases and appoint anyone they want. It's a public utility that will answer only to the state. And you can't vote them out. Water rates will soar and pay checks will be packed. And the Mayor can say he has no control over it. PUBLIC OPEN YOUR EYES! Get ready for the biggest screw job ever.

Guest With your money

If all these things come to pass with our water and the KMUA, I'll bet one of the commissioners will become a high paid consultant. Can you guess who?
