The ad shows a large picture of General Petraeus with the large print reading, "General Petraeus OR Betray Us". This is the latest example of how low the radical left has sunk; in a time of war to suggest our top general is betraying the american public. This poor General has been put in an impossible situation and this impossible administration sure as hell isn't gonna help him out. Bern
The answer is ... he betrayed us. He is bought and paid for by George W. Bush. As Gen. Fallon said, he is a Kiss Ass. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sen. Warner asked: "Does the [iraq war] make America safer?"Petraeus replied,"I don't know, actually. I have not sat down and sorted in my own mind." I think Petraeus is honest and doing his best under these difficult conditions. He will not say the Iraqi adventure has made us safer, something the Bush Admin would love to hear. He also says the surge helps. It does if you look at his point of view. He and every military commander knows there are not enough troops, so the surge has helped with that. It gives some relief to the troops currently there. I believe in his heart he has serious doubts but if he were to tell congress that the Iraq invasion has made us less safe, he'd have to resign. Its gotten ridiculous. We've been at war for 4 years and Petraeus is the fourth or fifth supreme military commander of Iraq. Plus all the Pentagon changes. Its not normal. During WW II, we didn't see Roosevelt replacing his generals every year. Eisenhower remained, McArthur remained, Nimitz remained, King remained, and Marshall remained. They served during the whole war. This war, which we are told is the pivotal conflict of all time, has become the senior military revolving door. The pivotal conflict of all time. The joke is you will never see any of the young Bushies serving in this pivotal conflict.

If there really was progress, surely having more time since major combat ended than all of WWII took, the Iraqis would be able to take care of their own business by now. Tasteless as the ad may be it doesn't compare to the tastelessness of false reports. It WOULD take a lot of courage for a candidate to speak out agaonst an AD. After all, they'd be speaking against a Constitutional Right, sounds like something more in the Shrub's line of thought, that is if thought of any kind can be attributed to The Shrub. And it must have been a real challenge for Rudy to pay for hos own ad, he on;y makes a $100,000 a speech or more since making a personal industry speaking about 9/11. Guest Paul
What will the loons do when Hillary is president and the troops are still in Iraq. This was the mistake of the century our going into Iraq. We should only have been in afganistan hunting for binladen. This is a major screw up, big time. We are screwed. But remember this, the loons on the left can't help us and they will only hurt this great nation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is too pessimistic a view. We must try to extricate ourselves from Iraq. One way or another, we will; when we have a president who does not labor under the misconceptions of this administration, we can begin digging our way out of the very deep hole the Bushies dug us into. It's going to be one step at a time, and no it's not going to be easy, but we must start. It's up to the people to have the sense to realize that the next president is inheriting a mess, and must be supported in taking a new approach to get us out. Hillary Clinton is no loon. She has won grudging but nearly universal respect from her colleagues as a powerful, hard-working and distinguished Senator. She won over upstate Republicans in New York. Like her husband, she seems to be most interested in her eventual place in history, which means that she will try to do what is best for the country in the long term. That will stand in sharp contrast to the current occupant of the White House, whose main interest is in redistributing wealth in favor of his super-rich friends. Obama is no loon either. Though short on experience at a high level, he was the first black president of the Harvard law review, no small achievement. He is obviously and extraordinarily intelligent, and also charismatic, which gives him the opportunity to challenge the nation to great things. Edwards has disappointed me in his inability to communicate the way I know he can; however, if he wins an early primary and delivers the kind of address I've seen him deliver when he's on, he could also inspire the nation. Like the other Democrats, and perhaps more than any of them, he understands the critical importance of restoring the middle class, which has taken a beating under radical right wing rule. He would be a president of the people, but unless he jump starts his campaign with an early win, he's not going to make it. Richardson, Biden and Dodd are all thorougly experienced, highly intelligent and superbly qualified. Any one of them would stand head and shoulders above frat boy, and would lead our country in a desperately needed new direction. In the Congress, the radicals and the loons are mainly on the Republican side of the aisle. The pendulum has swung dangerously far to the right. It's time for it to swing back. The hope is that Democrats and other progressives won't ruin it this time, at least for a while. It seems that power always corrupts the party in power, but at least the Democrats care about ordinary people.

And Patriot you'll remember this game from when you were in Nam. According to how the report was written, if a person is shot in front of the head its a crime. If they are shot in the back of the head it was by a terrorist. When over 400 Iraqis were killed in the terrorist bombing this summer they weren't counted because according to the report this was not considered a terrorist act since it was shiite bombing shiite. And of the seven NCO's who wrote the truth about what is going on in Iraq, two were killed and one was shot in the head. Since as I understand it he was shot from the front side, I guess he was a victim of a crime. And I suppose you don't believe them either because after all they are actually there. The Left loonies are going to top these "achievements": dragging us into a quagmire of a war by lying to us passing tax breaks that have widened the gap between rich and poor dismantling major pieces of the Constitution to promote an imperial presidency tolerating and sometimes even sponsored the worst corruption since Teapot Dome ruining our reputation for integrity throughout the world We'd better get busy, my fellow liberals -- these five are just those I had top-of-mind, and it's a very incomplete list. It will take all of us working at breakneck speed to match the Rethuglicans' record over the last two terms. Leigh
