In accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-6 et seq., due to the State of Emergency regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Town of Kearny scheduled for Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 7:00 pm will be conducted via the Zoom virtual meeting service at the scheduled date and time. Town Hall and the Council Chamber located at 402 Kearny Avenue, Kearny, are closed to the public for the meeting.

Video functionality will only be turned on for the Mayor and Council and for Town Officials and department heads as needed. If you are a member of the public and wish to participate in the public portions of the meeting, you must follow the following instructions to join the virtual meeting via Zoom Audio:
Join the meeting using Zoom Audio. Participants can “raise their hand” with an icon.
All microphones of public speakers will be muted except during the public portions of the meeting. When you hear your name announced during the public portions of the meeting, you may address the Mayor. After a speaker’s time expires, that individual’s microphone will be muted to allow other speakers the opportunity to address the Mayor. Each user will have the capability to participate via audio only.
Members of the public can submit comments by electronic mail and written letter form to the Town Clerk no later than 3:00 pm on the scheduled meeting date. Comments submitted by email should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or can be delivered in person to the Clerk’s Office at Town Hall, 402 Kearny Avenue by the indicated deadline. All comments will be read aloud during the public portion of the meeting.
Only members of the public using Zoom Audio will be able to participate during the public portions. Members of the public will not be able to speak in the public portions if using the Video Conference option or telephone number option.
Late Night Voter Registration
Please be advised that Tuesday, May 18, 2021 is the deadline to register to vote in the Primary Election on June 8, 2021. This includes all new voter registrations and transfers, and registrations to report a name or address change.
The Clerk’s Office at Town Hall, 402 Kearny Ave., will be open to accept voter registration applications until 9:00 p.m. on May 18th, 2021.

Notice of Proposed Revision to Schedule of Service Charges
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that pursuant to the provisions of Municipal Utilities Authority Law, N.J.S.A. 40:14B-1 et seq., the Kearny Municipal Utilities Authority proposes to promulgate a schedule of revised charges for sewerage treatment within its service district which includes all of South Kearny and the Kearny Meadowlands served or to be served by the Kearny Point Pumping Station of the Authority and specifically to impose revised user charges as follows:
Three (3) user classes will be established for the purpose of distributing the costs for treatment and collection, which will apply to both South Kearny and the Kearny Meadowlands. The user classes are as follows:
All customers with billing based on municipal water utility meter
Customers with billing based on private water meters
Customers with billing based on wastewater meters
A consistent rate will be charged for all Classes. The KMUA base rate for the current year is $6.51 per hundred cubic feet of water consumption (Class I and II) or wastewater metered (Class III). The rate for KMUA PVSC Charges is $4.66. In addition, a surcharge will apply to those customers which have wastewater sampled by PVSC. The surcharge will apply to Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) discharged which is in excess of the average BOD or TSS concentrations of the Town of Kearny. The surcharge rate shall be the same as that charged to the Town of Kearny by PVSC.
The above revised user charges to become effective January 1, 2021.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a public hearing on this proposal will be held by the Authority on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 at 6:00 PM. By emergency order of the Authority, in response to the State of Health Emergency declared by Governor Murphy, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 10:4-8(b), the meeting will be held remotely.
