All Volunteer Fire Department

Garden City, Long Island did away with it's entire paid fire department in favor of volunteers. It's five times bigger than Harrison with a larger population. Maybe their Mayor & Council could advise Harrison and Kearny on how to save million$ of dollar$ by doing the same. There would be no difference in service and property taxes would go down substantially to offset the current revaluation and other killer property tax increases. Why are the white men's welfare Firefighters of Harrison and Kearny allowed to continue abusing the residents with their outrageous salary, benefit and other demands when the majority don't live locally or spend a dime at local businesses. The residents should be allowed to walk into the Fire houses (man caves/clubhouses) 24 hrs. a day to see the disgrace of Firefighters sleeping and watching TV on the back of the actual residents hard work. Why are the Fire House doors always locked? It's an abuse of the system.

Barney , If I wake up to smelling smoke in my house at 3 AM and discover my basement on fire,  can I expect volunteers who are at their homes sleeping, to wake up, get dressed, go outside and get in their cars, drive to the firehouse, change into their fire fighting clothes, open the doors, start up the fire trucks, and drive to my house, all this before trying to determine if there  is anyone alive and trapped or if  it's too late to save anyone and now it's just trying to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining houses.  Barney, the answer is NO. That's why we have professional FF's  24/7  who will be at my house before a volunteer can start his car.

That response sounds very similar to the paid guys response cause we know they get good rest and sleep. 6 million dollars to hang in the firehouse. Volunteers all the way save lower taxes.

Volunteer Firefighters sleep at the Firehouse the same as the overpaid white male welfare patronage & nepotism babies that are on the payroll. Volunteers also live in the community they serve so they have a vested interest in helping the residents. Harrison would still have ambulance service if volunteers were used. Paid Firefighting is charity, a handout to unskilled laborers that nobody else wants.

Listen Fire Marshall Bill stop covering up the boys club. Best part time job going and every other fire dept has to save the homes in Harrison. Volunteers all the way and they would get to the scene faster then the sleepy heads.

Years ago before I moved to Kearny, I was a career FF in Bergen County. One night we were dispatched to assist at a house fire that was right on the border of a town with a volunteer FD. We arrived first and went to work. The kitchen was fully involved and was knocked down quickly. The family had self evacuated and were safe. As we were picking up and getting an exhaust fan set up, we heard sirens approaching and a minute later the volunteers arrived. They were angry that we had put "their" fire out and questioned why we were there. This tells you all you need to know about career vs. volunteer fire depts.

@Anonymous : Great fake news wannnabe hero story. People want lower taxes and are tired of the white man's welfare patronage & nepotism mill Fire Departments. The Firehouses are public buildings paid for by the sweat of the residents. Why not be open 24 hours a day so the residents can go in anytime to see the bravest in action? You want to hide the ugly truth of prolonged periods of inactivity spent sleeping and watching TV. The big screen TV's, top shelf beds, high end kichens, wifi and top of the line gyms are all TAXPAYER FUNDED. The FD is most Firefighters SECOND job! The reality of the no work, part time, $100K + benefits "job" is an open secret embarrassment to every town with a paid fire department. The only time anyone sees the bums is when they are out running personal errands. It's a disgrace! Nobody cares about your war stories. Save them for the "probies" that believe your BS. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

Blathering Barney knows the truth Firemarshall Bill the boys club needs to go. A lot of wasted tax dollars. The boys get a lot of sleep so they are  good and rested to go work jobs while off from the club house.

Kearny Senior, the retired Firefighter with *** ***** *** currently ******* ** * Firefighter, cannot dispute any factual account relating to the Firefighter "job" scam. He's the loudest person in the room because he doesn't want to jeopardize his ***** white male welfare. The moron *** is finally out of the basement and he doesn't want him back.  He doesn't want to drag the kneepads out of storage to find his uneducated, unskilled laborer *** ******** charity job. Over 100 Firefighters making over $100K a year for a town that has maybe two fires a year. The last two fires were fatalities =2, Kearny FD = 0. Complete failures! $20 million a year in salaries and they haven't saved one life. They also don't live in Kearny. Volunteers might actually save a life because they would interact with the residents more than an hour a week and care about their neighbors. The next Mayoral candidate could win over this single issue.

We've all heard the phrase "Trump Derangement Syndrome".  Well  now  we have a new one identified. Blathering Barney is afflicted with "Firefighter Derangement Syndrome ''' .  His jealousy and envy and failure to become something he's wanted since he was a little boy has gotten to be too much for him. There's not much anyone can do for him, he'll just continue to blather away until he has a breakdown or **** *** ***. Either way it's a sad ending.

It's expected! When a person expresses their views about what they see as a waste of taxpayer money ( The white male welfare patronage &  nepotism Fire Department) a big mouth encourages individuals to kill themselves and the moderator apparently doesn't see a problem with that bullying. When a person calls another a loser because they got fired from PVSC the moderator becomes unhinged and berates the person while comforting the person that was called  loser. This is very typical behavior of left wing self absorbed entitled Democrats. All opinions matter as long as you agree with the liberals. If not, telling people to kill themselves is not only allowed  but seemingly encouraged on the forum. People should continue to monitor and speak up about what they perceive as a waste of their tax dollars. The almighty Fire Department appears off limits for some reason. The FD charity jobs are so coveted that criticism is met with a wolf pack mentality when brought to light. How very sad. This is the world we now live in.

It's wasn't expected that Blathering Barney would think he's a psychologist. If he thinks he is, he should try to understand his  OCD  concerning Kearny's Bravest. If I were your chief you'd ride a desk armed with a water gun.

With all this housing the last thing you want is a volunteer fire department what they need to do is hire more and get rid of that EMT service and let the firemen do it.  Time is everything and fires burn quick, you want immediate response you don't have time for someone to get through the town traffic to the fire house to gear up and then on their way your house will be ashes on the ground.  Be careful what you ask and wish for.

Response time is everything? I agree, but it's apparent that you are uneducated or too biased to see the current reality. The disgrace of delayed responses by Firefighters sleeping on the clock has almost certainly cost lives already. It's all over by the time they reluctantly wake up, shake off the cobwebs or hangover and realize that they are not at home. "Five more minutes mom." Lol! Then they have to get dressed, get to the engine, get directions and finally arrive at a fire. A HUGE WASTE OF LIFE SAVING MINUTES! The 24 hour shifts were created by Firefighters for several reasons but faster response time WAS NOT one of them. The 24 shifts are for: 1) The 90% of non-Harrison resident Firefighters who do not want to drive into Harrison more than twice a week. 2) The guaranteed sleep enables the part-time heroes (lol!) to be well rested for their primary job. 3) The 24 hour shift allows the fearless smoke eaters (lol!) to run personal errands, watch TV, cheat on their wives, sleep off hangovers, barbecue and hide in the clubhouse. The only time the bravest (lol!) emerge from their luxury playroom is to run personal errands or stuff their faces. The latter is testament to their fat & sloppy physical condition. Instituting 8 hour shifts requiring all Firefighters to be AWAKE, ALERT and willing to work (that's the biggest problem) would undoubtedly result in faster response times. Given that fact, why do idiots like you or the heroes (lol!) themselves fight for the change? It was amusing but a waste of time to read your fake news rant bashing volunteers but now GO GET YOUR SHINE BOX! HAHAHAHA!

@Kearny Senior & Agency Observer:  Right. I got it. No intelligent response as usual to the overpaid Firefighters scamming the taxpayers. It's a disgrace that it is allowed by corrupt politicians & accepted by an unwitting public. My town has a great all volunteer Fire Department run on donations. They are 100% better than any paid FD. You're both LOSERS!

Blathering Barney,  So you live at the shore and commute to your job (that you hate} at the PD.  If you were a member of Kearny's Bravest, your commuting would be cut in half. Too bad for you that you weren't good enough to be a FF. Watch those donuts,
