No, we all know we're being taken for a ride. But the voters keep voting these vultures into office. The mayor in Bell, California was just sentenced to one year in jail for paying himself hundreds of thousands in salary. The Star-Ledger needs to be given the list of these bloated salaries. Guest senior guest
All these 'un necessary' new and increased six figure salaries and 'no' money can be found to continue to pay this 'low level' position of 'doctor driver for seniors & the disabled', that used to be held by Freddy. If 'financially' necessary (got to be kidding) in order to keep this 'humane & 'real' position; hire 2 p/t employees instead of 1 full-time worker so as to save money on paying out 'benefits'. It's 'unbelievable' that there is 'enough' money available to pay a $200,000 salary for a position that we did without last year; look to get 'around' adding $40,000 to a $157.000 superintendent's salary and 'claim' that there isn't 'enough' money to pay for a 'low' level driver position to take old, disabled town residents to a doctor who have no family or friends to take them and can't drive anymore. Then they wonder why they can't get enough volunteers to do it. If Harrison was a 'low income' country village in the poor, backwoods of W. Virginian, etc. then people would volunteer because 'everybody' in the area was poor or receiving low level pay in the local employment or few 'town jobs. Get rid of the 'un necessary' $200,000 education position and that money will pay for 1 full-time or 2 p/t 'doctor' drivers. The 2nd option would be to take the $40,000 that Harrison was 'rich' enough to look to pay Dr. Doran and use 'it' to pay the 'doctor' driver. As a so called 'humanitarian' I'm sure that Dr. Doran, the BOE, and the mayor and town council would not want to assist our needy seniors and disabled who need continuous assistance in getting to the doctor. By the way, paying a salary to get seniors to a doctor is 'much more important' than paying 'several' full-time & p/t workers to keep the senior center open 'all day' for 25-28 seniors to only eat for 30 minutes ; most of them leave and a few stay to play cards, etc. If need be, make the senior center open p/t, with / p/t workers; less employees and put that money into 'paying' the senior doctor driver that we had for over 25 yrs. Until the zombies wake up and understand that taxes can be lowered if unnecessary positions are eliminated and inflated salaries cut, then nothing is going to change. Send a message to the fat cats in nov. that we're not going to take it any more.
Guest Guest
The new senior citizen housing on Harrison Ave, by the gardens will be filled with tenants selected in a lottery open to all residents of Hudson and Essex County. If you’re a Harrison senior citizen and are not a winner in the lottery, don’t worry, Mayor Fife has several other properties in mind to build additional housing. Good Luck. Guest taxpayer
Their goals for this election is to hire more family members and give existing family members raises and side jobs. This should not be a problem with the tax big increases that will be coming over the next four years. Go for it Zombies. Row "A" all the way! Guest a Harrison senior
Good Luck. With only 15 apt; why would the senior housing be opened to Essex County residents? Hudson County residents are not eligible to apply for county or government jobs in Newark or Essex County; take books out of the Newark library (unless you buy a $75 a yr. library card every year); or apply for low income housing there. With the tiny 15 apts. open to the gigantic population of Essex Co; the Harrison and Hudson Co. residents will be lost in the lottery and by the time each local applicant gets an apt., they'll be almost dead or already deceased. With a town of previously 15,000 and now growing to 20,000; a 15 or so senior housing would be lucky if it covered only 'all' the Harrison seniors who want and need an apt. while they are still able to take care if themselves and live alone. There are seniors who can't afford and are unable to take care of a home and need to move from it, They'd rather have a place in town to go to, rather than leave town and move down the shore with their kids or in a senior housing far away from their friends. This new senior housing is 'only' approx. 15 apts.; not the 'gigantic' 500 apts. of Kingland Court /the H. Gardens; so 'reserve' a 'small' 15 apts. for our Harrison seniors.
