OK, so according to you, the President shouldn't fly on Air Force One.

What else do you want him to do about climate change that he isn't doing now, or is that it?

No answer, in other words, it's not about what President Obama does or doesn't do. It's about a blind, irrational hatred for an African-American Democrat who had the audacity - and the intelligence, drive and other virtues that Republicans claim to value - to get elected President. Twice.

Why bother opening topics if you just get your ass kicked every time, as you're running away?

Global temperatures for the month of June 2014 were the highest ever recorded for any June since records began to be kept in 1880. Taken alone, this is only one month's data, but when coupled with the fact that this is the 38th straight year and the 352nd consecutive month with global temperatures above the 20th-century average, this is unmistakable proof of climate change, and in particular global warming.

I will be interested to see the data for July. It may reflect the same thing, even though we have a cool spell in parts of the United States because of weather patterns. Let's see, though, what the global data show. Either way, 38 straight years and 352 consecutive months is an unmistakable pattern. The person who opened this topic is just dead wrong. Here is a link to the page in Science Daily discussing this. The article is appropriately sourced.

If you want the truth, don't listen to blowhards on talk radio. Read the data and study the science for yourself. Anyone can do it. Science Daily is an especially good source, because it presents summaries of the leading scientific news.

It must be the Kool-Aid that prevents you zero loonies from thinking clearly. This nonsense over global warming being man-made is just zero's environmental agenda.

North Africa was lush jungle long before it became a desert, long before a single human lived on the earth. Glaciers once extended down over our northern states, again, long before the first human. Global warming and cooling has occurred regularly over millions of years, long before zero decided to make it a political issue.

You Loonies need to wise up and get off the Kool-Aid.

And of course, KOTW's perpetual right wing blowhard-ignoramus has no answer for this either.

No, the scientific community all over the world is in agreement that global warming is man-made, and that it is very dangerous. You're just making stuff up, as usual.

North Africa was lush jungle long before it became a desert, long before a single human lived on the earth. Glaciers once extended down over our northern states, again, long before the first human. Global warming and cooling has occurred regularly over millions of years, long before zero decided to make it a political issue.

Those things took place over tens or hundreds of thousands of years. The climate change this is threatening our lives is taking place over a couple of centuries during this period of industrialization and post-industrialization, and it is accelerating.

Furthermore, there's no guarantee that we won't have another life-killling Ice Age. But don't you think we should take care not to cause it ourselves?

The other point, which is the main one, is that the amount of carbon in the atmosphere hasn't been this high since the great mass extinction 65 million years ago. Study the IPCC reports, so that you can comment from knowledge instead of ignorance. But of course, you won't, because you're not interested in the facts.

Wrong again. In the broad sweep of history, the Sahara was habitable for only a brief time, when monsoons brought water to the region. Check out the facts here.

None of this in any way denies or ameliorates the global warming that is occurring now, worldwide.

What childish remarks. The environmental movement dates back long before President Obama. It took hold under a Republican President, Richard Nixon, who established the EPA. In the 1960s, parts of Lake Erie went on fire a few times because of the amount of gas and oil in it. Thanks to environmental regulations, our air and water in the United States are somewhat cleaner now. Unfortunately, China's move toward industrialization has pumped vast amounts of carbon into the atmosphere, probably outweighing the gains we have made in reducing air pollution.

Climate cycles like the spread and receding of the glaciers took place over very long periods of time, "over millions of years" as you put it. We are having noticeable effects on climate in just a century. That means we are accelerating some processes and retarding others. The consequences must be considered. Ignorance and apologetics will not protect our future. In other words, this issue is too important to rationalize whatever answer you want to give.

Deforestation is a complex matter, as noted in the section from the latest IPCC report on the subject. Human activity is resulting in deforestation, not only through climate change but also by direct cutting of timber, for example. Check out some graphics on deforestation in the Amazon. The point is, you can't intelligently compare this to natural fluctuations over hundreds of thousands or millions of years. That's like saying you're going to die anyway, so don't worry about killing yourself early by not taking care of your health.

We need to face the fact that human activity is changing the natural environment at a rapid rate and in unprecedented ways. Among well-informed people who aren't just trying to rationalize something, there isn't any doubt about it. The science is clear.
