A PO can be using drugs and not be chosen to take a random drug test. He can, be given a drug test if the PD established probable cause. If he is found to be using drugs, the punishment is dismissal. There are no rehab for Officers who use drugs.They swear to uphold the law and using drugs is a violation of their oath and the criminal law. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Approx. The purpose is to maintain the integrity of the department. There have been no tests since VG left in 2003. Then the party began. He was too strict with us. A a matter of fact one took place very recently. As for VG, good riddance! What a a piece of crap. The ONLY reason he tested people was his hoping that someone came up dirty. How is Steady Shifts a BAD thing, when it's been proven through stidies that working around the clock will shorten your life span by approx 12 years? How many people on your dept are using Drugs. You're supposed to be cops, if you see another officer acting in a manner that causes you to believe he's a user, then Make the complaing..remember all the chief needs is Reasonable Suspicion to order a drug test..something that can be accomplished through an anonymous letter to the chief with a copy to the HCPO. I find it interesting that friends on Kearny PD, who have had Unlimited Sick Always, Steady Shifts for over 12 years, and so far no random drug testing doesnt seem to have the problems that you folks are complaining about with THREE times the number of Officers.
