Guest #1
How much money will EMTAC make a month in Kearny. Better yet, how much money have they made for the last few monthe in billing? I think KVERS can do it.
Guest StudiesAndObservations
How much money will EMTAC make a month in Kearny.Better yet, how much money have they made for the last few monthe in billing? I think KVERS can do it. Emtac's contract is for $30,000/month. ANY monies recieved through billing go against that $30K, So lets say EMTAC bills for $25,000.00 Then the town's bill for that Month to EMTAC is onlu $5,000.00. If EMTAC makes MORE than the $30K, then the town pays nothing. As far as KVERS goes, it's unfortunate that it had to go to an outside contractor, but they were out of Service TOO much plain and simple. When the surrounding towns Refuse to send an ambulance because KVES is out of service due to lack of Manpower, What is the town to do? Is $360,000.00 a year a lot of money? Sure it is..BUT, How much is someone's life worth??? How much would it have cost the Town if someone had died in their home, waiting for an ambulance to come??? I doubt the lawsuit would be lower than what it's costing for EMTAC, or what it would cost to contract any other ambulance service, wether it's Rural-Metro, McCabes or whoever. Guest KVERS is gone for good
The Kearny Volunteer ambulance is officially extinct... gone for good. Time for the town to sell or demolish the building and auction off the ambulances. Actually, I think a couple of their ambulances were purchased by West Hudson. Well, might as well sell them to EMTAC - since they own West Hudson already.

Guest Guest
I'm not sure this info is right so don't everyone get hostile but I sort of remember for some years now all firefighters are required to have EMT training. If that is so, why wouldn't they handle the ambulances? All over the country firefighters also handle emergency and rescue and I would rather money go to them then some outside contractor. Just a thought!

Exactly right!! When is the Town of Kearny Administration going to get it?!?! Years ago ALL the KFD members were trained in EMT services. Also at that time you had alot of retirements from the department. Maybe they were scared that they were really going to take over the ambulance and have to do some REAL work!! Well the Town should have given it to them then we would not be spending the money for an outside service as we are now. Kearny taxpayers: LISTEN UP and speak up to the Mayor and your Councilmembers vent your frustration about this and tell them your thoughts on why the KFD should have been given the ambulance in the first place. $30,000.00 a month is a lot of money to be wasting on a service while we have our firehouses loaded with firefighters that are already trained in that service!! STOP THE SPENDING!!!!

EMTAC is the best! Just wait until you meet our collection agency they are even better, we will not give up until people pay us! Since we can charge whatever price we want. You will (PAY UP!) rest assured whatever your insurance does not cover we will find you and you will pay the rest. If you cannot afford it instead of washing the dishes, we will train you to ride the ambulance and be an EMT. You will need to be an EMT when you get the bill you may need CPR! YOU will pay us! Yes EMTAC billing is a great deal until you receive a bill!

I'm not saying that EMTAC is not doing a good job - they have been and they look very professional compared to how the volunteers acted. When you have a fully manned fire department that the Town spent $$ on training them years ago - they should take control over the ambulance service in this Town. Plain and simple. Plain & simple is that the FD is not fully manned. 1 engine is manned with 1 driver,1 capt & 2 ff's, 3 engines ride with a 1 driver, 1 capt. & 1 ff, 1 engine has 1 driver & 1 capt.,the 1 ladder has 1 driver & 1 capt. This is bare bones minimun to protect the town. Just because you see a piece of apparatus don't think there are 5 men on it! The FD was trained as EMT's & are recertified every year to be 1st Responders not to man the ambulance. Ask the Chief if he has the manpower to run the ambulance. I gaurantee he'll tell you he would need to hire at least 16 men minimum.

Guest abacus
In some towns the police man the ambulance. You are correct some towns. In some towns they have the state police and no police department. In some towns the schools and fd are regionalized. In some towns the people are nice and it never rains. We can on forever. What the heck is your point? You surely have some kind of bug up uranus. (the planet) You sure do know or think you know alot about ambulances. In some towns you could be a doctor. Some pyschos build castles in the sky. But you definately live in one.
Guest SAD
I'm sorry to see the KVERS end like this. I was part of the squad when it was first founded around 1982 by 4 young men. maybe 21 or 22 yrs old. They fought very hard to make that squad a reality. We had alot of fun-alot of laughs, but when the calls came, the were handled in a serious and professional manner. Steve D, Steve H, Mike M. and Jerry C.--sorry!!
