Guest Truth Teller
Right wingers tend to be lying scumbags. They prove this repeatedly by their conduct, constantly twisting words to create false images. As has also been pointed out on KOTW many times, the right wing behaves this way because right wingers tend to be low in critical thinking skills, and they tend to be narrative-driven. They are easy targets for the well-known political principle known as the Big Lie: just tell them a story or pin a label on something, and repeat it often enough, and the right wing sheep will believe it and bleat it incessantly. They won’t think about it. They won’t ever question it. And a mountain of facts won’t change their minds. They are not driven by facts or even much interested in reality; like small children to shiny new pennies, they are captivated by the power of the label and the story, whether true or untrue. An example of dishonest labeling is the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act.” Marriage is not under attack. The title of the legislation is dishonest. What is under attack, and has been under attack for thousands of years, is the right of homosexuals to equal treatment in their communities and under the law. http://books.google.com/books?id=TfBYd9xVa...p;q&f=false http://books.google.com/books?id=gBiBSaZrZ...p;q&f=false http://books.google.com/books?id=imu9qp8G3...p;q&f=false http://www.amazon.com/Stonewall-Riots-That.../ref=pd_sim_b_6 http://www.amazon.com/Natural-History-Homo...tmm_hrd_title_0 A federal judge in California, appointed by George H.W. Bush, just tried a case challenging Proposition 8, in which California voters had overturned a law legalizing gay marriage by a narrow 52% majority. He held that those defending the law had failed to show any harm that would result from allowing gays and lesbians to marry. Instead of making all the judge’s arguments here, I will simply provide this link to his opinion and invite people to read it. He minces no words. It isn’t a close question. The harm done to gays and lesbians is obvious: they are denied equal treatment under the law and many benefits that are afforded to married couples. There is no rational basis for it. Read the opinion. This is a Republican judge. http://www.sfgate.com/chronicle/acrobat/20...FINAL.pdf?tsp=1 So I ask: how is marriage threatened by the marriage of gays and lesbians; how is anyone harmed? These are questions right wingers cannot answer. They could not answer it on trial in California and they will not be able to answer it here. Because gay and lesbian marriage harm no one. Guest Truth Teller
Ummm Wasnt the Defense of Marriage Act enacted by William Clinton?? or are you suggesting HE was a "Right Winger"?? Doesn't matter. It's a question right wingers cannot answer. They form the bulk of the support for it. Just so you don't think I'm not answering your question, Clinton was a politician who made too many compromises in my opinion.
Guest Truth Teller
No one answered the question. Someone tried to change the subject to Clinton's role in signing the absurdly misnamed "Defense of Marriage Act" but that does not answer the question. How does gay marriage threaten or harm anyone?
