News Flash !!  Terrorism knows no country.

Forget terrorism. We should go after the terrorists. THEY are the culprits. Despite what you and your fellow Bushtards squawk about, declaring war on a concept is a retarded idea.

Why have we stopped pursuing the man who orchestrated 9/11? Do you have the guts to give that a straight answer?

Then why did we attack the country of Iraq?

Could it be what's underneath the sand? It certainly can't be because of all the reasons we've been told. They've all been proven wrong.

Yup, and now we are building permannent military bases in Iraq.Bad for us but a tidy windfall for the likes of Haliburton. Why don't we bring our troops hope and just let the private security forces take over? It is a corporate war after all. Opps I forgot, unlike a private contractor a soldier cant just up and go home when they get tired of the bullshit. Does anyone remember that one of the main motivations for Bin Laden to orchestrate his attacks was because we had a lingering military presence in the middle east after the gulf war. I know some here would say "so what" but the fact is our military will never be welcome on mideast soil. It will never be like Germany or North and South Korea. Not that they didn't have thier moments over the years. I think we as a country need to realize that fact. Sure violence may subside, for a while but it will be back. Probably with a vengence and the hopes of catching out military off guard. Anyone remember the marine barracks in Lebannon? You heard it here first.

The point Strife seems to be making is that the Bush administration has made "terrorism" a slogan. There are real terrorists, and they are the terrorist threat. Go after them, not someone else in the name of a slogan.

If it's for oil then why don't we just take the stuff and ship it here?

Where would you suggest the attack be made?

75689[/snapback]

Anyplace members of al Qaeda meet/train. Invading/occupying one country ties down assets we need to be more fluid amd more easily repositioned. The war against terror is not a conventional war and attempting to prosecute it with the conventional strategy of invasion/occupation will not solve the problem and will only sap US resources.

We on the left know better than you on the right about the real war on terror. There are several things we have to do to win it. The numbering is in no particular order. We must do all these things simultaneously.

1. Free ourselves from oil dependence. That means developing and switching to other sources of energy.

Better make it quick, since your party is filled with folks who oppose nuclear energy as well as exploiting native oil and gas reserves. And as the economy tanks because of rising energy prices caused by the deliberate avoidance of the most energy-efficient energy sources, you figure that technology will advance more quickly or perhaps more slowly?

2. Regain the world's trust and support, and work with other nations to root out and destroy terrorist operations. That means coordinating intelligence operations and military power internationally. That's not being done. The U.S. military is pre-occupied in Iraq, and the rest of the world's military isn't supporting us in any signifcant way.

The first part is being done. You don't know what you're talking about. Nobody is going to step up to take the place of the U.S. in Iraq, and the U.S. will look nothing but weak if it pulls out and tries to leave the job to others.

3. Stop wasting nearly all our military resources on nation-building, in one nation! Why did that make perfect sense to you idiots when Bush was running for election, and no sense now that he's on the most quixotic nation-building misadventure in our history?

Because wars of counterinsurgency are different from traditional warfare. Maybe you should do a bit of reading in General Petraeus' counterinsurgency manual.

4. Stop spending ourselves deeper and deeper into debt in a unilateral quasi-military adventure whose military objective ended with the infamous "mission accomplished." In a perverse sense, Bush was right. The military objective had been achieved. But the jackass went in with no exit strategy, the very thing he claimed should never be done. And you idiots on the right couldn't care less because he's your boy and can do no wrong. You're ditto-headed idiots. I don't know what you think you're accomplishing ignoring the most basic of facts like that. The generals who have come out of service and blasted this policy --- this is unprecedented, and it leaves no doubt that this "war" is a disaster.

Even Jack "Let's redeploy to Okinawa!" Murtha said the surge was working when he recently returned from Iraq.

What a dittohead.

By the way, it's not a crock. Many on the right (and some you would think were not so far right) thought Hitler wasn't such a bad guy at all.

Because we still have to live in the world with all the other countries. Even Hitler and Stalin were concerned about diplomacy because it was in their self-interest. That's not to compare the US to Hitler and Stalin, but only to answer your question.

The world isn't just a collection of blacks and whites. Think for once about what's really happening.

Exactly. It's not like they have one main 'secret hideout' we can raid to save the day.

The sad thing is we're actually currently making things worse, not better.

You're pretty much there--I didn't address the 'invoke "terrorism" in order to make any military action a-okay' strategy but that is happening also. Basically, we should be going after the actual culprits. Concepts are too abstract to attack directly, therefore declaring 'war' on them is simply absurd.

Which reminds me of this:

"If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insiduously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to seperate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?" --Aleksander Solzhenitsyn

Another typical right-wing response from a person who obvious thinks party is everything. I'm surprised at that one. We all know Bryan is a rabid ideologue, but I never thought he was a Republican party ditto-head. See Bryan's remark about Fred Phelps running as a Democrat. Interesting how you right-wingers are the first to criticize others for dividing us along party lines, and the last to see that you're the worst offenders.

True to their form, the right wing also completely misrepresented and distorted Rep. Murtha's comments. He said that the surge was working military, but not otherwise. He followed with the point that has consistently been made, which is that it is up to the Iraqis to form a stable government, and that part is not working. In other words, Murtha affirmed the main objection to this disastrous and ill-advised war, which is that we lack the means to accomplish any objectives beyond regime change and have no exit strategy. But hey, why should right-wing zealots start caring about truth now?

It's absolutely hilarious the way Strife and Guest talk about the war, like they

have this intimate knowledge of the inner workings of everyone and everything

involved, including the terrorists. The Kool-aid must be powerful stuff.

I know that to an idiot like you, the obvious seems like "insider information," but I assure you it's plain to see for those capable of critical thinking.
