:D

Why is that none of the Harrison athletics are covered by Jim Hague in the Sports section of the Observer? The Harrison Rec cheerleaders have won 2 National Titles so far this year and there has not been one mention about it...however if it were No. Arlington, Nutley or even Bloomfiled I'm sure it would have been in there.

It is the Coach's responsibility to notify the local papers. If the coach doesn't tell the newspapers, how are they supposed to know?

I think it's sad that the town doesn't even recognize the Cheerleaders for their accomplishments!

Way to go girls! Keep up the good work!

The cheerleaders are the onlyt sport in Town...you kidding me..They get to fly around the country ectect..the rest are crap

I never said the Cheerleaders were the only sport in town, they just happen to be the only team that consistently wins. I'm concerned mostly that no sport in Harrison is being recognized and so many kids work their asses off to compete at the same level as the kids from QP, NA, Nutley, Belleville and Bloomfield, why aren't they being highlighted in the same fashion. If this is up to the coaches to submit then shame on them...I'm sick and tired of all the kids in our area being overlooked on their outstanding accomplishments.

Also, when did the Observer start to include Essex county in it's reporting area...this was always a West Hudson paper...is there a sudden ad surge from Essex county keeping this paper afloat???

Know your information before you comment...the Harrison Cheerleaders, as a high school squad, has performed at national competitions in Disney World FL two years in a row, nationally televised on ESPN. How much more credibility does one need?

Also, teams compete and choose where they attend based on division availability. If a competition does not offer the division that the squad needs to compete in, then obviously, you can't compete there.

Get your facts straight...Nick Gregory has done a fine job with these girls for the past 30 years. There isn't anything fraudulent about it.

Keep up the good work ladies! The legend continues...

Jim covers HS sports mostly and a little bit of college and pro. It is up to the coaches and league coordinators to supply the Observer with Recreation results.

When I started this topic I didn't intend for it to become a cheerleading bashing session. Shame on you if you are an adult with such hang-ups where the cheerleaders are concerned...what couldn't make the team when you were younger???

As the parent of a cheerleader I am proud of my child, her team and the coaches for all that they do. If you have children you should consider yourself lucky if they get involved in this program for one thing it keeps them off the streets, practices are frequent and long so when they got home they are too tired to go and hang out, then there are the competitions that mostly take place during the weekend where they are either out of town or too tired when they get home from a local competition to be a nuisanse around town.

And to the person who must have used bad language when asking how the team captain is chosen...are you a pedofile (in case you aren't familiar with the word it's

an adult who is sexually attracted to a child or children)? I know there are many of you scattered around this town, so keep looking at your kiddie porn and I'm sure the Feds will catch up to you.

I beg of all of you..please don't let this post be a personal attack on these girls we as parents are doing the best we can to bring our children up to be respectful young ladies with the chance of cutting loose from this town.

ESPN April of 1995 and 1996...

Stop knocking these kids for bringing the only positive recognition to your miserable little town, with the exception of the high school soccer team. Especially when people like you have don't have anything positive to say about anyone or anything.

Why don't you and Mr. Harrison go sit on the couch and eat another dunkin donut watching sports on television that neither of you ever had the skills to compete in...

Oh, and one last thing...why don't we check the programs on the national competitions that these kids have won. Does the term "overALL" mean anything? Hmm...must've been failures in math class too.

Sounds like "Guest" has an axe to grind here. All that bitterness comes from somewhere. Could it be he has a daughter that couldn't make the cheerleding squad ?? Hmmm.

Ok, first of all cheerleading is considered a sport and schools (unlike Harrison) help their students optain cheerleading scholarships to accredited schools. Anyone can pick up a bat and play baseball, anyone can pick up a basketball and play basketball, those individuals may not be great at the sport but they can do it. NOT EVERYONE has the coordination and gymnastic skills it takes to be a cheerleader so stop knocking these kids who work their hearts out.

Now on to the topic of them competing against only 2 teams. Competitions are selected according to where the squard fits in be it small varsity, large varsity or whatever. If you want to throw stones try picking the girls basketball team, we all know Rog picks the teams they compete against according to their record which the majority of the time is teams who are in a much lower bracket then his girls!

My vote for STUPID POST OF THE YEAR.

Wouldn't the same hold true for Cheerleading? Couldn't anybody put on a skirt and lead a cheer? They may not be great at it, but they can do it.

Idiots abound.

You are correct anyone can put on a skirt and lead a cheer but like I previously stated not everyone has the coordination and the gymnastic skills to perform at the level our local cheerleaders perform at!!!!! Big difference there my friend, the cheerleaders in our town compete at such a high level so you would need some type of skill to join the squard.

Wow ! does this mean that there is peace at last .The cheerleaders of Harrrison will continue to perform at their exceptionally high level, doing what ever it is that they do.Does it mean that they will no longer insult the rest of the athletes in town because no one wrote about them in the observer.or will the whining continue along with the legend.please everyone get a grip and stop the insanityThe Pope died for God's sake. His last words weren't "give me an H"

LETS GO BLUE TIDE.... people in this town need to stop talkin about our team because we work really hard to win... maybe you should come and see us one time soo you can really see what we do.. instead of always talkin about our team and thinking that we just say rah rah rah.. because thats not all we do.. we are a good team and you can hate it or love it but either way we are still winning.. and all of this stuff that you say about us means NOTHING to us.. it just makes us a STRONGER team!!!!!! sooo keep it up! but just remember we are kids workin hard and for you to want to put us to shame.. thats sad!!!!!!!! esp. if you are parents... haaa but whatever.. we represent harrison well and im proud of it!!!!!!!
