Simple fact is as long as we rely on foreign oil we place our security in the hands of people who are our enemies (Hugo Chavez anyone??) Simple Fact. As f right now, there are NO readily available, economically viable alternatives to fossile fuels to power both transportation and residential needs.

Why are there no 'economically viable alternatives to fossile fuels' ? Legislation has been proposed for decades to increase research into alternative energy. There is a bill in the Senate as I type that is being held up by the Republicans. When will they stop whistling past the graveyard?

That's not what a good American cares about. You divide the country by political parties. Good Americans care about having enough energy to meet our needs without destroying the natural environment, which sustains us all. We need to break our addiction to oil and other fossil fuels. We should have been doing R&D for wind, solar and geothermal for more than 30 years. We didn't do it then, so we should do it now. Meanwhile, the government should oversee the oil companies, not merely let them do whatever they want. So if we're going to get a political solution for this problem, it's not going to come from the Republicans. The Democrats - maybe. We can get it if we demand it. But first, people have to stop thinking and talking stupid. Which means they have to stop thinking like you, Stupid.
