Not unusual for you not to know where to begin...or end. You want less government, but somehow BP's problem is a US gov't problem? Which is it?

of course because this is an unrecoverable disaster, JUST like the Exxon Valdez Spill..i mean nothing but NOTHING recovered and the place is a vast wastelands of nothing but dead... Wait, What?? Oops Nevermind.
Simple fact is as long as we rely on foreign oil we place our security in the hands of people who are our enemies (Hugo Chavez anyone??) Simple Fact. As f right now, there are NO readily available, economically viable alternatives to fossile fuels to power both transportation and residential needs.

who created the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone that allows for offshore drilling? oh, it was Ronald Reagan. damn! get your facts straight, chief. all clinton did was respond to pressure from congress to create incentive for MORE offshore drilling. at least it wasn't clinton's company that cemented (i'm sorry... DIDN'T CEMENT*) the well casing that FAILED and caused this entire disaster; that was actually cheney!!!

250,000 barrels of oil vs. 82 to 216 million barrels of oil. In one of the most important marine areas in the world. According to the numbers supplied by the people at fault.

Are you trying to say that oil spills do not cause irrepairable damage to wetlands? Is Hugo Chavez the worst guy you could come up with who we buy oil from?
Why are there no 'economically viable alternatives to fossile fuels' ? Legislation has been proposed for decades to increase research into alternative energy. There is a bill in the Senate as I type that is being held up by the Republicans. When will they stop whistling past the graveyard?

...when we had the Contract on America crowd in power. The fact is, the left have been total wusses at standing up to the right's "drill everywhere!" rhetoric, but that's what they do. To try and claim that the motive force for drilling isn't the right is asinine. That being said, the left has utterly failed to ensure that safeguards are in place. It was under Obama's watch that BP was given exemptions that allowed this to happen.

Stupid,
That's not what a good American cares about. You divide the country by political parties. Good Americans care about having enough energy to meet our needs without destroying the natural environment, which sustains us all. We need to break our addiction to oil and other fossil fuels. We should have been doing R&D for wind, solar and geothermal for more than 30 years. We didn't do it then, so we should do it now. Meanwhile, the government should oversee the oil companies, not merely let them do whatever they want. They should have required that any offshore drilling be backed up by proper contingency plans in the event of a spill. We didn't do that either, so we should do it now. That's what matters.
But if you want to talk about politics, it was right wing idiots like you who made fun of every effort to take the environment into account, every effort to wean ourselves off fossil fuels and every effort to regulate the oil companies. There wasn't a single environmental measure for which idiots like you didn't show your snot-nosed contempt. "Drill, baby, drill," remember that one, Stupid?
So if we're going to get a political solution for this problem, it's not going to come from the Republicans. The Democrats - maybe. We can get it if we demand it. But first, people have to stop thinking and talking stupid. Which means they have to stop thinking like you, Stupid.
