Besides, if the big complaint is that the BoE is about nepotism and inside favors, maybe someone who isn't part of the old crowd is worth a look. I don't even know the person involved. I just want to evaluate all the candidates, and would like to think that Kearny voters will make their decisions for better reasons than are stated in the opening post. She has a child about to enter the Kearny school system, so she has a personal interest in the quality of our schools. Based on her resume, she's far more qualified than Plaugic or Fernandez. Find out about her before you pass judgment. The purpose of the election is to select the best people to do a job, not have a juvenile contest about who has lived here the longest. Most of the students just got off the boat! Does that mean they cant't go to school here. Dumb comment wake up! There is not too many life long residents left. They fled a long time ago. Most of the elected officials do not represent the the majority of the residents anyway. Most residents do not vote in these elections any way! They are either too busy working to survive or don't care. I think we should be happy this woman who is educated is living here and taking an interest in the community. Anyone who runs for office has a personal interest. She has a boy going to KHS and is interested in the education system. What is wrong with that? I would think the current Board Members were products of the Kearny School System and were raised in Kearny. I am aware that this town has changed and I am of the belief that you have to establish yourself in this community in order to gain the trust of the people. Anyone can have a good resume on paper but having experiences in growing up in Kearny matters and will factor into decisions you will make on the Board of Education.So for Ms Davidson get out in the community and learn about Kearny first and share with the many organizations that are the backbone of Kearny and will offer you in helping you be an informed Board Member, until then your resume for being a candidate is incomplete. I'm sure it helps, but you can still be a viable asset to the educational decisions that need to be made without having lived here for decades. The fact that a candidate is in fact an educator should certainly trump where you grew up, don't you think? Does being a police officer bring something of value? Or an accountant? Or a bank officer? Diversity is a necessary component to independent, sensible decisions, not where you grew up. Some of the members of the school board who have lived here all their lives weren't particularly good at moving things along, were they? They didn't necessarily do what was best for the town or the school system. It's kind of disgraceful to diminish someone's intentions just because they're "NEW" to the town. Obviously a calling as she went on to receive her degree and become a special education teacher. Mrs. Davidson good for you! In addition, look up her salary on the public website. She makes little more than a starting teacher in Kearny and works in Paterson. Maybe if she was related to a BOE member she would have been hired in Kearny! So she spoke up on behalf of teachers in a district run by the state that is run by a Governor who hates public education and teachers! I say again good for her! No, I am not a teacher but have known many many people who in inner city schools that are great teachers and great people! God bless them. The children need them! Lastly, you are ignorant to blame the woes of the Paterson School District on teachers. The state has been running it for years and has not improved a thing! They gave top administrators perks and raises and ignored the teachers and uncertificated staff for years! As far as I am concerned they do not pay teachers enough in those districts. Mrs. Davidson good luck to you in your election! Because I know the individuals and their whining entitled family members behind these posts, i can tell you not everyone who works in Kearny is ready to bite your flesh. If you get elected maybe you should look into transferring some of those entitled people out of their white tower into schools where they may actually see the challenges that really exist! Some are always criticizing old regimes but a new comer gets involved and they still complain. I guess some people cannot ever be happy! You have a person who is now the principal of Garfield school with no qualifications, no elementary degree . I feel sorry for these students who have gone from a great principal and now one who has no clue!!!! He was appointed just because they had too many vice principals left over after re districting.
