Kearny Schools in CRISIS But the lights at the field look great

The result in my opinion of poor decisions by this Board of Education have resulted once again in the Taxpayers of Kearny having to pay more in School  property taxes (an average increase of $200 per household) and the end result being 37 employees being laid off and the Children being given less services in return. This School District is going backwards fast and the blame is squarely on the Board of Education. How are those lights looking now Mr. Viscuso at Franklin School. A senseless project and wasted monies that could have solved many of the CRISIS issues that are now facing this School District. Mr Viscuso's pet project I believe is one of the reasons why there is no plan with money being spent in ways that doesn't prepare for preserving our employees. So ask this question at the next Board Meeting? How much did the lights at Franklin School cost???  And how many teaching positions could have been saved if they didn't put lights on this field?????

Another example of brain dead board members making knee jerk decisions that have caused teachers to be laid off and students given less in return. Way to go KNOPKA,  CIFELLI-SHERRY is defending something that can't be DEFENDED.  This board is clearly focused on self interest and preserving family and friends at the expense of the taxpayer with CIFELLI-SHERRY leading the way on family employment. So keep up your rants Councilman because for CIFELLI-SHERRY the truth hurts, this is a disaster of a board of education with a terrible display of mismanagement and millions of wasted tax dollars that have resulted in no positive results for the school district. These poor decisions have hurt the main attraction that bring young families into Kearny and as a result these families are finding other communities that have better school districts and are affordable and better managed. Kearny is on the radar as a town that is over taxed and under served. Changes are coming on both the Board of Education and the Mayor and Town Council, people are tired and finally fed up and plans are being made to mount challenges to both town bodies. So enjoy the summer and get your walking shoes on because you have a lot of explaining to do to an already overtaxed taxpayer.

Councilman Landy, If you spent as much time dealing with town issues as you are trying to do with school issues, taxes would be down, we'd have more cops and fireman protecting us, crime would be down and the streets around town would be paved.  If you're going to post your opinion on this blog anonymously, you probably should have picked another week to give your opinion in the Observer.  Not too bright.

I applaud Councilman Landy, his precise depiction of what has occurred and continues to happen at the BOE can not be argued. he addressed every idiotic statement which Sherry put out there with factual information. Mrs. Sherry, with all her years of experience in public office, you would think would have tougher skin, but NO, every time someone criticizes her or her constituents she goes on the attack, trying to spin the table, pass blame and point fingers at others. Thank you to the council members who spoke up about the biggest investment taxpayers foot the burden for, our children's education. The Town has held the line on taxes, improving efficiency on services, too bad this current BOE has no clue how to manage finances as well as most other issues. This will be the LARGEST tax increase due to the BOE in over 10 years !!

Why lights on Franklin School Field ?????? Didn't anyone realize the condition of the School's Finances?? The poor decisions by this BOE have resulted in Higher Taxes ($200 dollars average per household) and less services that have left the Schools with increased class sizes and less individual instruction for the students. Teachers will continue in buying supplies with their own money and the MORALE will sink even lower. Thank the popular retired fireman Mr Viscuso for this poor choice of how to spend tax money. It's sad that we vote for people not on brain's but on popularity. This is why quality people with an education won't run for the BOE because they are discouraged by the lack of COMMON SENSE in confronting these very important problems that we face in our Schools. Compounding the the CRISIS what we are dealing with is the lack of commitment in learning about these issues. Board Members are discouraged from taking a direct interest in these problems and without knowing the full scope of these problems nobody on this BOARD will hold this ADMINSTRATION accountable for these poor decisions and just remain silent and allow them to run a muck. This Board needs change and a joint effort can make this happen with PARENTS, STUDENTS, TEACHERS and TAXPAYERS coming together as ONE in making difference for our TOWN and our SCHOOLS. It can be done remember "a journey of a thousand miles stars with a single step" Lets take that step together!!!!!!!!!!!!

The BOE tells the Observer that the High School will be done, and than in a few years they will say they don't have money. And than cut back on the project. And than will say they never said any of it. They don't know the truth if it hit them in the face.

I was amused that the Director of Plant Operations and the BA were not available for comment, in that article.

Gee, what did you expect. the BOE to be able go answer the Obsever when the tax pays want the answers. Never going to happen. The one Guy gave his notice. Let's see who they put there. Another family member or friend? Good luck ****, you will be happy now that you don' t have to work for the misfits of Kearny any more. Now they will have to find some one else to put blame on.

There IS a problem with the schools and denying or white washing it does nothing but distroy any trust parents may have had in the schools.  I'm not talking about the vocal group that complains about the BOE but the majority of parents who want their kids to get a good education.

The BOE BA/Sec resigned. I guess he knew this Board would try to pin the financial nightmare on him sooner or later !

Bad choices by the CIFELLI-SHERRY, MacDONALD TEAM has put this town in the worse financial condition in the History of Kearny. A ****** who has an interest in a GO-GO BAR, You can't write this stuff its a keystone comedy that has turned the Kearny School District into the laughing stock of the State. The sad thing is its the PROPERTY TAXPAYER that has felt the pain of POOR LEADERSHIP, SELF SERVING TRUSTEES, BAD DECISIONS, Lights at Franklin School, Midland Ave Board of Education Office, $100,000 secretary's the list goes on and on and the public and the kids are the ones that get the $HIT end of the deal. Lets pay attention and throw these reckless members out. The time has come for positive change and I believe this time this town is finally paying attention.

This is what started the decline of the Kearny School District.

Longtime Representation of the likes of VISCUSO, MACDONALD, and CIFELLI- SHERRY and the lack of interest by Quality People who with an educational background and the experience in addressing the Mismanagement of the Kearny School District have caused our Schools to go into a tale spin with reckless spending ( LIGHTS AT FRANKLIN FIELD, SALARY INCREASES TO ADMINSTRAITORS, FAILED PLANNING ON THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT, MILLIONS OF DOLLARS LOST IN COST OVERRUNS FOR THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OFFICE) and the list goes on and on with the same people who have been running this School System for a long period of time making mistake after mistake and last but not least the Middle School expansion that didn't take place resulting in a Charter School takeover that in the end will cause a loss of teacher's and staff to be laid off and cost the Taxpayers paying more for less and Private for Profit School's will take Student's away from Public School's and provide more for our kids as a result of the reductions in service in Kearny Public Schools. The KEA is to blame for trusting this Board and the Union Leadership walked hand and foot with this board for years and now is left at the alter with nothing but losing Memberships for years to come because of Longtime VISCUSO representation. The time is now to change the culture in our school's and elect individuals that have the BRAINS and the ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS to manage our Tax Dollars that will have MAXIMUM RETURN that is AFFORDABLE and provides the best education for our CHILDREN. Isn't that what they were elected to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT THIS BOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to get the truth out about what's going out in Kearny you need to get on Facebook and link to KOTW.  KOTW is the only place where you can anoymously post things. The Board members are afraid of KOTW

If you are a board member and have no conflicts, Vote your conscious, can be your own person and are there to serve the community  you have nothing to be afraid of. If you are self serving, think you are entitled to something or think that you are better than everyone else.

Or you can't think for yourself.

You should be afraid. Because sooner or later people find out.

Vote for change.
